Alex and James's Autumn Wedding at The Grove in Cromer
Autumn Wedding at The Grove, Cromer | Alex & James
Late September in Norfolk is something special. As summer softens into autumn, the trees begin to turn, the light becomes golden and gentle, and the coastline around Cromer takes on a quiet, romantic feel. It was the perfect setting for Alex and James to tie the knot at The Grove, one of their favourite places, filled with memories of incredible food, fine wine, and time spent together.
A Relaxed, Intimate Norfolk Wedding
Alex and James chose to keep their wedding small and meaningful, centred around their closest friends and family. With just a handful of guests and Alex’s best friend Amanda by her side as bridesmaid, the atmosphere was personal, joyful, and full of genuine moments.
They wanted their photography to match that feeling: natural, informal, and storytelling-driven. Nothing overly posed, just real moments, real emotions, and the story of their day as it unfolded.
Half-Day Wedding Photography in Norfolk
This wedding was covered with a half-day photography package, something that’s becoming increasingly popular with couples planning shorter, more intimate celebrations. With thoughtful planning, it’s incredible how much can be captured in just 3–4 hours.
Coverage began around an hour before the ceremony, allowing time to document the final touches of bridal preparations, the laughter, and those fleeting moments before everything begins.
From there, I headed to the ceremony space to capture James and his Best Man greeting family and guests as they arrived. This time also allows me to connect with the venue team and officiants, ensuring everything runs smoothly and respectfully during the ceremony itself. There were some special doggy guests too!
The Ceremony & Golden Autumn Moments
As Alex arrived, the atmosphere shifted into something truly special. The ceremony was heartfelt and intimate, set against the early autumn backdrop that Norfolk does so well.
One of the most important moments to capture is that walk back down the aisle—newly married, full of joy, and surrounded by the people who matter most. From there, the celebrations flowed naturally into congratulations, confetti, and relaxed family photographs.
We then slipped away briefly for some couple portraits, making the most of the soft autumn light and the beautiful surroundings of The Grove. Even with limited time, these moments are always worth it, giving couples space to breathe, connect, and soak it all in.
Capturing the Details
Back inside, I documented all the thoughtful details Alex and James had spent months planning, the wedding cakes, table settings, and carefully curated decor. These elements are such an important part of the story and deserve to be remembered.
As guests mingled, shared drinks, and laughter filled the room, I captured natural interactions and candid moments, those in-between memories that often become the most treasured.
The final part of coverage included Alex and James’s entrance into their wedding breakfast as a married couple, a perfect moment to round off the story before they continued celebrating with their guests.
Natural Wedding Photography, Whatever the Weather
September weather in Norfolk can be unpredictable, but preparation is everything. For family photographs, I always carry a portable studio flash setup, allowing for beautiful indoor shots if needed. And for couple portraits—well, there’s always a way. Whether it’s soft overcast light or a quick dash between showers (umbrellas included!), we make it work.
